Graham Johnson, a native of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), is recognized as one of the world's leading vocal accompanists. He studied at London's Royal Academy of Music and subsequently with the Geoffrey Parsons. In 1972 he was accompanist at Peter Pears' first Maltings master classes and thereafter worked regularly with the great tenor.

He also has accompanied Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Dame Felicity Lott, Victoria de los Angeles, Brigitte Fassbaender and many others. In 1976 he formed The Songmakers' Almanac to explore neglected areas of piano-accompanied vocal music.

He has presented several recital cycles for London's South Bank Centre and Wigmore Hall, as well as a seven-part cycle of Goethe settings for the Alte Oper, Frankfurt.

He has written and presented programs for both BBC radio and television on the songs of Schubert, Poulenc, Liszt and Shostakovich. His 10-year project to record the entire Schubert Lieder for Hyperion has attracted much critical praise.

Mr. Johnson serves as Professor of Accompaniment and Fellow at London's Guildhall School of Music, and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. He has led master classes in the United States, Europe and New Zealand.
