Andreas Staier
Born in Göttingen, Germany, Andreas Staier studied piano and harpsichord in Hanover and Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Ton Koopman.
In a career taking him around the world, he has earned a reputation as an outstanding fortepiano and harpsichord soloist as well as a chamber music player.
While performing as harpsichordist of Musica Antiqua Köln from 1983 to 1986, he continued his studies of classical and post-classical music on the fortepiano.
From 1987 to 1996 he taught harpsichord at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland. Mr. Staier is a regular at leading music festivals, including la Roque d'Anthéron, Festival de Montreux, Beethoven-Fest Bonn, Bach-Fest Leipzig and Bach-Tage Berlin, among others.
He has recorded extensively with Teldec and Harmonia Mundi in such repertoire as Bach, Clementi, Scarlatti, Mozart, Salieri, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Field and Schubert. In 2002 he was honored with a
Cannes Classical Award for his Variaciones del Fandango Español. Later that same year he was awarded a Certificate of Honor of the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik for his recordings.
